#BGIF- Bless God It’s Friday
A #BGIM Edition

Another Friday presents itself. And we continue from where we left off in our Important Series. After, Rest is Important & Family is Important, we land on the ultimate today.

#BGIF- GOD is No. 1

God is No. 1. He is not just important; He is the ultimate in terms of Importance.

Deuteronomy 8:18
You shall remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day.”

Proverbs 10:22
The blessing of the LORD makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.

All power belongs to the Lord. The power to make your plans to succeed. He also has the power to THWART your plans so that nothing you do will succeed. Then at the end, you would be chasing after the wind like King Solomon said in the book of Ecclesiastics.

Having observed and listened to the interviews of many successful and accomplished men and women in their various fields of work, i realised that these ones just like us, have a more BALANCED approach to life where they don’t ignore the God Factor.

They all have a conscious presence and acknowledgement of God in their life aside their ever-diligent work output.

Proverbs 16:3 reads
” Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established.”

and

Proverbs 3:5-6 reads
“v5.  Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
v6. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

Have you wondered why Daniel with an excellent spirit continually excelled under all the kings in Babylon? I guess you won’t attribute it only to his excellent spirit. For I tell you, there were others also with excellent spirits in the land.

It’s because Daniel made God No. 1 in his life. He gave God the preeminence in his life by his daily unabated prayers to God.

Is God the No. 1 in your life?

#BGIF- FAMILY is Important

Quotes_Creator_20170512_065912

#BGIF Bless God It’s Friday
A #BGIM Weekend Edition

This week’s #BGIM is specifically targeted for the weekend, that’s why it is also released on a Friday just like last week’s edition.

#BGIF- FAMILY Is Important

Yes. Family is important. You might be wondering what has Family got to do with work and for that matter #BGIM.

Families are so very important in the work life of any person such that should a person neglect his Family life, he is not ASSURED of Constant Progress and Success at his workplace.

Everyone comes from home to work. And the atmosphere from home has the ability to affect one’s productivity the whole day. Any worker who has family issues at home, for that period is not efficient. And low efficiency leads to low profit and low income levels.

So, what do we do then?
From henceforth, let’s pay critical attention to our families.

We can’t always spend all our day in the office and not spend time with our children and spouses. They need sometimes just our presence to keep them company and satisfy their emotional needs. It is not all about raking in the huge sums of money at work and sending them big stipends and gifts. It’s important we are there for them.

If they don’t have us around repeatedly, one day when a condition of deviant behaviour of our wards or psychological issues of spouses pop up, we might never have peace of mind for the rest of our working lives.

Spend quality time with your wife.
Spend quality time with your children.
Spend quality time with your close relatives.

Not only would it benefit them and you, it would go a long way to relieve STRESS.

In fact, any worker who has constant interaction with friends and family after work is hardly stressed. Laughter is always around such interactions, which de-stresses all like a Comedy Show.

#BGIF- Bless God It’s Friday: REST IS IMPORTANT

#BGIM WORKER’S DAY Special Edition

One might be wondering why this week’s #BGIM wasn’t released on Monday, Workers Day when workers the world over were celebrated for their inevitable contribution to the success and growth of companies and economies, but rather released on a Friday. The answer is simple. It’s because of this week’s topic which is

#BGIF- REST IS IMPORTANT

The effect and power of REST is underestimated by most workers. We seem not to know and realise the magical powers behind rest. It is not magical per say but the effects is just like one who has been touched by a magic wand.

It’s true workers are being encouraged to work hard, give out their best, work overtime when necessary, keep their company’s work at heart wherever they go but #BGIM advises this week that all of these good attitudes towards work should NOT be at the EXPENSE of Rest.

When we rest after a hard day’s work, we allow the body to REFRESH and RECUPERATE so that we can start the next day full of fresh energy to overcome the new challenges of that day.

Sometimes we get so engrossed and engulfed in the work, task or project we are doing along with its attendant deadlines that we feel when we rest, we would waste time or we would be termed lazy but REST is still IMPORTANT.

Fact of the matter is the body like machines need rest to recuperate and freshen up. I advise that you ask any Science-Related Friend of yours to explain how effective rest is after reading this article.

And I am sure, you can even testify yourself that after every good night rest, you were very effective the next day. That’s why there are Weekends, Holidays, Leave or Vacation etc. Please let’s make use of them.

If the Almighty God Himself rested after his work, why wouldn’t you from this weekend make it a point to PAY MORE ATTENTION to Rest.

#BGIM- FIND A LESS STRESSFUL Way To Do The Work

Quotes_Creator_20170424_063759

#BGIM Bless God It’s Monday

Another Monday presents itself. After a relaxing and religious weekend, it’s time to work to see the blessings of God manifested in our lives.

#BGIM- FIND A LESS STRESSFUL WAY to do the Work

Yes, I mean find a less stressful way to do the work. The fact is work is difficult and anybody who works hard would tell you that it is stressful most of the time but for the JOY OF THE WORK (check #BGIM previous edition at http://wp.me/p6VOfY-8A) and the benefits received from doing your work well, we encourage ourselves and gather the strength to accomplish our daily tasks.

The renowned pediatrician, Dr Ben Carson, in his book, Gifted Hands talks about how he made work less stressful and the amazing results he had. During the summer holidays after his first year in Yale University, he had to work with a highway crew in Detroit, USA as a supervisor because he would need the financial returns when school resumes for 2nd Year.

His highway crew had to collect the trash along the roads to keep the city clean. They worked from 7:30 am-4:30 pm each day and most crews made up of five or six young men usually filled 12 plastic bags a day. That’s an average of 2 plastic bags per person for the whole day.

Dr. Ben whose team had covered unprecedented levels of 100 to 200 bags a day, on his 4th day suggested to his crew an unconventional method of coming to work very early at 6am while the sun was now rising with that cool atmosphere and collect the needed trash before it gets hot by 9am.

His crew after back and forth deliberations accepted it and started working with it. And you can’t imagine the results, these 6 young men collected 150 bags each day by 9am whilst the other crews were yet to start work. Thus Ben’s crew had the rest of the day off after 9am but still got paid their daily wages because they met their target.

Dr. Ben Carson deserves a standing ovation. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Yes, we all accept work is difficult but sometimes we have to look for less-stressful ways to accomplish our daily tasks. It does not mean look for a lazy way of working such that you do a shoddy work. Every work that must be done must be done well.

This week let’s be on the lookout for less stressful ways of working while achieving the same results.
One simple means for some is playing music in the background whilst they work.

WHAT’S YOURS?

#BGIM Special- INSPECT YOUR WORK!!!

Quotes_Creator_20170418_082739

#BGEIO Bless God Easter Is Over

#BGIM EASTER Edition

After celebrating the Easter over the extended weekend, for which we remembered Jesus Christ’s sacrifice for all mankind, it’s time to get back to work.

#BGEIO- INSPECT YOUR WORK.

Genesis 1:31a in the creation story says “And God saw everything that He had made, and behold it was very good” (ESV)

The Almighty, All-Knowing God after all his creation looked again at all that he done and saw it was good. #BGIM this day infers that even God inspected His own work before He concluded that everything was very good. Thus the need for all mankind to INSPECT our works when we are done.

The question for today is “Do you inspect your work anytime you finish or you are just in a hurry to submit it?”

I also strongly believe that Jesus would have inspected his work (i.e. the sacrifice for mankind) on the cross before He said “It is finished”. This was a work, I am sure He couldn’t take any chances of any little little mistakes, hence, after a good assessment of his PERFECT & BLAMELESS Sacrifice, He could cry out to the Father that It is finished.

So is #BGIM asking for Perfect works?

Not necessarily so, #BGIM is calling for INSPECTION of every work you do so that we can get NEAR PERFECT Works.

In life, we usually demand very good or perfect works from others but we don’t place such demands on ourselves. Hence, anytime our supervisors come to inspect our works, we are always found wanting.

What harm would it cause you to take an extra 2 or 5 minutes to inspect your own work before you submit it?

Students would not inspect their work before submitting their classwork, homework, class test or exams but are expecting 100% always forgetting that they have to make sure all ‘i’s are dotted and all ‘t’s are crossed along with other unnoticed mistakes.

Before submitting the invoice or receipt to your customer for the purchase of your item, please spend a few seconds to crosscheck it.

Before you submit the contract you have signed to the 2nd party, please crosscheck and double check it.

After you have arranged tables and chairs for an event, stand aside and inspect your work, check and see if overcrowding might be an issue, if movement might be easy, if everybody would see what is happening on stage and if not what can you do to help them.

Before you preach or teach in church or school respectively, inspect your notes and make sure every fact is accurate ready for your delivery to the people.

Before you print that document from the computer the next time, please inspect it.

Just INSPECT YOUR WORK.
It would save you from trouble and disgrace in the future.

#BGIM: Bless God It’s Monday- WHY DO A WORK for Another to REDO LATER!!!

Quotes_Creator_20170409_195106

#BGIM Bless God It’s Monday

After another relaxing weekend where most of us spent time with our maker in worship, we look forward to seeing Him bless us through the WORK of our HANDS in this coming week and beyond.

#BGIM- WHY Do A Work for Another to REDO LATER?!!!

Yes!!! You heard it right. Why Do A Work For Another To REDO LATER? Why? Why?? Why???

In the world of work, if a thing must be done, it must DONE WELL. It must be done ONCE and FOR ALL without the need to waste precious man hours to correct or redo it.

Why would you have to do a work shabbily or hurriedly only to realise it was not done well, thus, your Supervisor would require you do it again or a colleague corrects your work with a better output expected? Don’t think you are being ‘smart’ or cunning by being lazy or by cutting corners because if you continue that way, YOU CAN’T BE RECOMMENDED in the Day of Promotion or Reward. ( For #BGIM Recommendation Edition, click here
http://wp.me/p6VOfY-8l )

Talk of Redoing a work reminds me of a work some ECG (Electricity Company of Ghana) workers did recently around my school. They had to erect (fix) electric poles to allow for the extension of Electricity Services to that area and environs. I can remember so vividly that when they were ‘fixing’ the poles concerned members of the community including my Proprietress raised issues with how the poles were not in line and the need to shift some of the electric poles backwards. Since, these community members were not the supervisors of the ECG workers, they gave them a deaf ear with the attitude that the digging, carrying and ‘fixing’ of poles was a very difficult work requiring a lot of manual labour.

Lo and Behold, when the other crew came to connect the electric WIRES or CABLES a few weeks later, hmmm, they realised that the previous crew had done a shabby work. Hence, before they could start their work, they had to go round and correct (redo) all the wrongly placed poles before connecting the electric cables.

When I saw this, I said to myself, this is waste of time, manhours, salary, food and even man’s energy to stand in the hot sun to erect the poles requiring REDOING.

Don’t you have such scenarios in and around your place of work, home or community? I believe you have numerous of such examples including those of children.

It is true that the work is very difficult. It is true that the work is tiring. It is the true that none of your colleagues is around to help you finish it. It is true you might not be paid or the renumeration for that work is small. But if it must be DONE, it must be DONE WELL. Otherwise, don’t do it at all and waste your time and energy along with the precious time and energy of the one who would be LATER CALLED to REDO Your Work.

#BGIM- Bless God It’s Monday: THE JOY IN YOUR WORK

Quotes_Creator_20170403_060059

#BGIM Bless God It’s Monday

Another Monday presents itself to us where we can work throughout the week so we see the manifestation of God’s blessings in our lives. For in all labour, there is profit.

#BGIM- THE JOY IN YOUR WORK

Are you joyful about the work you do everyday or every week?
Is that work below your standard or is that work demeaning?
Is that work financially rewarding?
Would you like to change that work at the least opportunity?

If your answers are YES to most of these questions and the like, please let #BGIM offer some advice before you make that move.

You know, dear reader that sometimes, it is not all about how difficult, demanding or even demeaning your work is: rather it is all about your mindset about the work.

Do you know that other people would love to just do your work and even take less salary?
The Good Book, the Bible advises us to do all things as though doing it unto God. We should be glad in whatever work we find our hands doing for in that God’s blessings shall come.

David was a shepherd tending sheep in the wilderness whilst Joseph was a slave working in Potiphar’s house and even in prison. But one thing can be said about these men, THEY DIDN’T BEGRUDGE their work. They did it with all their heart and for your information, that’s what led to their BREAKTHROUGH in life to the TOP.

Ronald Reagan in 1962 visited America’s Space Agency, NASA on a tour and was surprised to see a JANITOR joyfully working for which he enquired why. The janitor’s response was ” Mr. President, I am working hard so that we can send a man to the moon ”

The man knew the importance of his work and its effects notwithstanding how people perceived it so HE PUT IN ALL HIS HEART AND DID IT WELL.
Hmmmm, how many of us could same?

A wonderful quote I came across sometime ago says, “If a man is called to sweep, he should sweep it so well like how Beethoven would play music, or how Maya Angelou would treat Poetry, or how Shakespeare would treat Literature and how Albert Einstein would treat Science”

Wow!!! Wow!!! Wow!!! A common sweeper working with such excitement and hardwork. May we work with such joy in our work this week and beyond.

#BGIM Edition- INVEST & REINVEST in Your Business

Quotes_Creator_20170329_062018

#BGIW Bless God It’s Wednesday
#BGIM Late Edition

Though this week’s #BGIM has delayed to today, we would continue with our weekly series.

#BGIM- INVEST & REINVEST IN YOUR BUSINESS

Most at times, when we talk about Investing into Businesses, most employees think they are exempted so they turn their attention to their employers for investment. But today, we want to turn the notion of investment upside down.

The Bible says in Jeremiah 29:7 that
_”But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.”_

Though the Israelites were in exile, God wanted them to invest PRAYER into that land because in the peace, welfare and prosperity of that land shall they also have their prosperity.

It’s true that it is your employer who has to provide almost everything to carry the business because the work belongs to him. But that doesn’t mean that as an employee or a worker, you also don’t put something from your own coffers or strength into the business. Should the business thrive, you would also thrive including remuneration and better working conditions. Should it shrink or collapse, you know the consequence as well.

Hence, all workers have to from their own strength or coffers add up something to whatever their employer or company is giving with the intent that the company would thrive. Though, it is true that human beings are ungrateful, I urge us all today to do everything to make our companies succeed because in its prosperity shall we have our prosperity.

AS AN EMPLOYEE, can you pinpoint anything you have invested in your company WITHOUT PAY???

And now to the employers who don’t seem to know the need to REINVEST. It is true you have invested a lot into the company and it is now chalking great success due to your efforts and sweat, but that doesn’t mean you should be enjoying the returns of your labour without reinvesting. You can’t just be buying cars, houses and personal properties etc because now the finances of your company is good.

Rather, this is the opportune time to REINVEST like a farmer who always keeps another set of maize seeds for replanting after every harvest. This is the time to employ a few more workers, time to improve the brand of your company, time to motivate your workers more, time to hire consultants or experts who would advise you on the new trends, time to invest in the training and upgrading of the skills of your work force amongst many others. If you don’t reinvest, hmmmmm. You would fizzle out of business in the next 5-10 years. And that’s why most companies can’t cross the 20-year anniversary barrier.

INVEST & REINVEST!!!

#BGIM- Bless God It’s Monday- CAN YOU BE RECOMMENDED?

Quotes_Creator_20170320_060753

After our prayers and conscious worship of God over the weekend, I am sure we are all expecting God to open great doors in our lives this week and beyond.

But I ask one question, which serves as the Theme for this week’s #BGIM.

Can You Be RECOMMENDED?

Yes!!! I am sure everybody would reply but the truth is not everybody can be recommended. If there is an opportunity around, would people recommend you all things being equal?

Can you be recommended to an investor as one who can diligently manage the affairs of his new company faithfully without any complaints of dishonesty?

Can you be recommended as a good worker for promotion to the vacant position in your company?

Can you be recommended as a good hardworking and respectful househelp / baby sitter to the high paying rich family?

Can you be recommended as a good taxi driver to be picking up school children to and from their schools?

Can you, and I mean, would you be recommended when there’s a vacancy?

Bishop Dag Heward-Mills once preached about the power of recommendation in 2010 and I have kept that with me and I can surely attest that Recommendation is very powerful.

Do you know the funny thing about recommendation?
People’s judgement on who to recommend is made when the person in question is not even aware. Also the judgement is made continuously over a period of time where time serves as the best litmus test. So by the time, the opportunity or chance who open up, that person would be recommended without any doubt.

So you see why you were not recommended the last time for that vacant position? Ahaaaaa…
You see it is not because that person was the employer’s favourite or he greased people’s palms: it is simply because YOU ONLY STARTED acting serious to work and other things when the vacant opportunity came up.

Now, you went to work early. You did overtime for free willingly. You did extra work. You sacrificed things on your own. You kept to deadlines. You contributed much to projects etc.

But the truth is the devil is always a liar. And hence you can’t deceive people by your recent attitude so that you are recommended.

If taxi drivers knew that when passengers sit in their cars, they are looking for drivers for their children, like they would all drive well?

Had I known is always at last.

#BGI60 Part 3- Let’s Forgive Each Other

Ghana-at-60-logo

#BGI60- Bless God It’s 60 (Part 3)

#BGIM Special Edition

We are grateful unto the Almighty God for helping us cross the 60 year mark peacefully. Whatever the case is, as Ghanaians, all we can do is thank God, learn from the past and look forward to a brighter future.

#BGI60- LET’S FORGIVE EACH OTHER

To err, it’s said, to be human but to forgive is divine. As also said in our traditional sayings, it is only those who are close to us that step on our foot.

When someone steps on your foot, the truth is, it is very painful especially if it the person was wearing a shoe. The person might have intentionally done so either by means of playing with you or done so mischievously. Sometimes too, it wasn’t intentional.

Whether intentional or unintentional, the truth is we can’t hold unto that mistake forever and begrudge that person as long as we live. It is important we forgive each other, so that we can surge forward as a nation. Remember, to forgive is ….

I know you can recount the number of times you might have been unfairly treated by your friends, relatives, colleagues at work, fellow members in an organization, neighbours, and even fellow citizens, but if we want to move forward as a nation to GREATER HEIGHTS IN THE FUTURE, we have to forgive.

I say it again, we have to FORGIVE.

Do we remember the works of the National Reconciliation Commission in the early 2000s? Their work was not to justify the atrocities committed by the military governments but that we forgive each other and compensate each other so that we move forward in this democratic era.

Let’s learn to say sorry when we step on our friend’s foot and let’s learn to forgive when our friends step on our foot. After that, we can embrace each other and walk together to the destination ahead.
